Well, honestly I’m not surprised by this at all. Yahoo is slowly fading, and they’ve missed the opportunity to get picked up by Microsoft so now we watch as they begin laying off workers. With operating costs rising and revenue not keeping pace, we see that Yahoo has laid off it’s entire design team. I’m just glad that I’m not still using Overture because the last two times things started getting ugly financially, they accidentally charged my credit card for double the advertising budget I’d set, then waited until the end of the quarter to reverse the charge - after they’d booked the revenue. I can’t help but be a bit suspicious of the circumstances. I ended up having to cancel the credit card I used entirely to prevent further accidental charges, and I haven’t used them since. No matter why you think it happened it either points to incompetence or untrustworthiness, neither of them good.
How long until Yahoo goes under? I think the band is playing on the deck of the ship…

Oops - looks like a ship’s anchor may have cut two cables used to carry internet signals across Africa, the Middle East and Asia. It is being reported that Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain Pakistan and India, are all experiencing severe problems.
Nations that have been spared the chaos include Israel — whose traffic uses a different route — and Lebanon and Iraq. Many Middle East governments also have backup satellite systems in case of cable failure. Officials say that this interruption may take up to two weeks to solve… well, at least we won’t be getting as many of those 419 emails I suppose
However it may be a real problem for companies relying on all those outsourced call centers.

Just stumbled across this blog post which might help. (I had someone ask me about this last week, and although it isn’t something we normally cover I figured there might be more people out there that needed a hand!)
I tried for at least 15 minutes to synchronize my Samsung Blackjack with my laptop using Windows Vista and everything I did failed, then out of frustration, I started searching on the web and everybody had something to say from adding ports to disabling firewall (all failed) until I run into Chris De Herrera’s site where he tells you exactly what to do.

There’s a lot of buzz spinning around right now about the new Apple laptop, MacBook Air. And it sure is.. well THIN, at any rate. Also extremely expensive. But what caught my eye was the revamped Apple TV 2.0. Here’s why I think it’s interesting:
1. Existing owners get a software upgrade and can then use the new features.
2. As much as the media would like us to believe that we are entering a brave new world where people watch movies on their computers and play with their robotic pets, fact is that the media wars will continue to be foght and won in the living room.
3. The idea of being able to stream movie rentals from Apple really puts the final nail in Blockbusters coffin, while simultaneously opening up a new (and oh so bloggable) rivalry between Apple and Netflix.
Here’s hoping I can see an Apple TV in action soon!

If you’re a technophile, I’d be willing to be you enjoy the Mythbusters - a show that debunks (and sometimes proves) classic urban legends with some slick science. Well, when I stumbled across this article I really enjoyed what Mythbuster stars Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman had to say about their own technology annoyances. A lot of the things they found frustrating I’ve also cursed at over the years - and I bet you have too!
